Worry. Worry. Worry.

http://wildchildmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Kjersti-mohawk-medium8-143x190.jpg

“Hi Mom!”  I sing into the phone.  I call everyday to see how she is doing.
I hear her on the other end.  Her voice is raspy and wheezy, as if she’s talking through a harmonica.
“What, mom?”
“I.  Fell.  I. Fell.  I’m.  On the.  Kitchen.  Floor”
“What, mom?  What?  You fell?  Are you ok?  What happened?”  I ask too many questions for her to answer.  Not because she doesn’t want to.  Not because she has fallen and is hurt.  But because she can’t [...]

3 Things Thursday – Parenting

http://wildchildmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Kjersti-mohawk-medium7-143x190.jpg

Sharing a confession, question, and quote every Thursday.
Confession:  I used to judge you.  Those of you, while on long car rides or sitting at a restaurant table with your family, would let your children watch TV.  Disgusting! I’d think.  What a cop out.  They  just rely on technology to numb their kids rather than deal with them!  I will NEVER do that .
Hahahahaha.  Yeah.  That was before I had kids.
I don’t do it often but yesterday, while at JoAnn Fabrics, [...]

I was Selfish

http://wildchildmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Kjersti-mohawk-medium6-143x190.jpg

I’d like to take a moment, here, at this particular time in my life, to thank all the people that have put up with me through the many years of my life.  Also, I’d like to like to apologize for how selfish and ignorant I’ve been.
This was going to be a “light-hearted” message provoked by a young person (someone in their late teens/early 20′s) I’ve been interacting with who has been pretty demanding and not very respectful of my time. [...]

3 Things Thursday – SEWING!

http://wildchildmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Kjersti-mohawk-medium5-143x190.jpg

Three Things Thursday.  Sharing a confession, question, and a quote.
Confession:     I walk through the isles of the fabric store, bouncing my fingertips across the soft bolts of  various prints and shades.  Then something speaks to me, it calls my name, it says:  I am the wind, sew me to the air.  I am a butterfly, sew me to fluttering wings.  I am a cupcake, I need some cherries!  My eyes widen, my tummy tickles, I pull out the [...]

Subliminal Messages in Cartoons?

http://wildchildmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Kjersti-mohawk-medium4-143x190.jpg

The video I want to share cannot be posted on my blog.  The user has disabled the embedding option (don’t worry if you don’t understand!) Instead, just click the link and go directly to YouTube.  This video shows how subliminal messages are put into children’s cartoon.  If you don’t have time to watch all 10 minutes of it, at least watch the first minute.  You’ll get the idea.

“Write your blog about spiders.”
“Can I push a button for you?  Can I push this?  Can I push F?”
“I wanna sit on your laps.”
“Oh, never mind.  I’ll write it on my blog.  Has anybody seen my computer?  I’m gonna write down MY blog.”
All I want to do these days is be present with my [...]

3 Things Thursday – Resurrection

http://wildchildmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Kjersti-mohawk-medium1-143x190.jpg

Quote:  “If you live in the dark a long time and the sun comes out, you do not cross into it whistling. There’s an initial uprush of relief at first, then-for me, anyway- a profound dislocation. My old assumptions about how the world works are buried, yet my new ones aren’t yet operational. There’s been a death of sorts, but without a few days in hell, no resurrection is possible.”
― Mary Karr, Lit
Confession:  I love Mary Karr.  Love her.  This is exactly how [...]

Creepy Cat Lady

http://wildchildmama.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Kjersti-mohawk-medium-143x190.jpg

I just screamed, “Don’t yell at your brother!”  through the house at my daughter.
I screamed it.
From that guttural, icky place of anger.  From that, “I have my period!” place.  Not the calm place of discipline.  Word-of-the-day?  Hypocritical.
Typically I am calm.
Fortunately, through many ECFE (Early Childhood Family Education) classes and a very reliable and patient husband (who was raised by “normal” parents, no offense mom, I love you to the moon and back) I’ve  acquired a firm, slightly louder voice that is direct [...]
