Strip clubs ain’t Africa

“I’m going to go into strip clubs and share the message of love with strippers.”  I say when my friend asks me, “What’s with the shirt?”
I’m wearing my “Jesus Loves Porn Stars” t-shirt from XXX Church.
“Sounds like people going into Africa,”  my friend says.
I laugh to myself, first because of her awesome dry humor and second, because I know exactly what she’s getting at.  She thinks I’m going to try to convert people like missionaries do in Africa.  I used [...]

Choosing Sides

Recently, I was at a craft show selling my aprons and I met a woman there who made and sold anointed signs; beautiful wall hangings with words of encouragement and Bible verses delicately painted on tapestries, mirrors, and wooden plaques.  Her Midwestern lilt and bobbed brunette hair reminded me of my aunt.  It felt like home talking to her.  As a prayer minister, she prays over her work, anointing each piece herself.  She said God had called her to do [...]

I’m having an affair

When I was about 20, after leaving an ugly environment I’d put myself in, I had an awakening.  A spiritual awakening.  One where I felt God in every thought, moment, blink of my eye.  At the time, I liked to get stoned and read the Bible.  That was when the experience began to seep into my muddied soul, revealing an inner source of love.  Words didn’t need to be formed.  Emotions flowed with clarity as if on a zip line [...]

I got this book for my kids about dinosaurs in underpants from Scholastic.  Underwear and giant reptiles are funny and when you’re potty training, everyone knows that undies are the ultimate prize.  But I very quickly realized that just because someone publishes a children’s book, it doesn’t mean they know how to write.  Or, more accurately, they don’t think the way I do.
Let me share an example with you:

>My Blog Might Get Freaky

My last blog was really pretty out on a limb for me.  I mean, I started this blog as a platform for my memoir and there are a lot of risky topics in it.  That’s because there are a lot of risky/sexy things in my past.   So I felt it was ok for me to share that piece.  But that isn’t the person I really want to showcase all the time in my blog.
Lately, I’ve been so busy that [...]

>What is the purpose of religion?

What is the purpose of religion?  Do any of us really know what GOD is?  Why god is a MAN?  Or even HUMAN in the religions followed by the majority?
I ask because our children are born with a clean slate, tabula rasa.  And, intentionally or not, we immediately graffiti all over their natural and pure spirituality our pictures, restrictions, and symbols of what it means to interact with God.
Maybe we’ve created human looking gods to help us focus our [...]
